Psychology Research and Methodology
This topic provides a comprehensive foundation in psychological research methods and methodology. Learners will explore the essential components of research design, including participant selection and allocation, experimental variables, and the importance of operationalisation. The module covers key concepts such as the placebo effect, experimenter effects, and methods to minimise extraneous variables through repeated-measures, matched-subjects, and independent-groups designs. Students will learn about correlation methods, scatter diagrams, and the interpretation of positive, negative, and zero correlations. The topic also addresses ethical considerations in psychological research, including participants' rights, informed consent, confidentiality, and debriefing. Additionally, learners will develop skills in accurate referencing using the Harvard system and understand the structure and components of an empirical research report.
